“Once Upon A Time In An Island Not Far Away” touches on the odyssey of being Cuban. In this case, reaching the shores of exile in the USA – an exotic carnival painted with comic-tragic strokes. Jorge L. Porrata’s artwork explores the relationship between text and image in a bilingual context. Issues of identity, the role of an artist as an individual and as a social entity, are also among his concerns. With poetic and political overtones mixed with humour, Jorge uses his art to confront the status quo, building a space for reflection, communication and connection.
